From the South

Chris ChagAs the first decade of the 21st century comes to a close, we have begun to prepare for 2010 at Winter Park Lodge. A lot of great ideas are in the developmental stage and we are always looking for your input. And yes, we’re a decade into the 21st century and I don’t have my flying car or hologram video-phone.

But before we put the cart before the horse, we have a lot to do this year. Between degrees and communications, we will have events every Tuesday this month. There should be no reason you can’t come out for at least one night and see your brothers.

And looking down the road, our dinner on October 27th will also be our chance to welcome R.W. Chet King to Winter Park Lodge for his official visit and show him around the place. And we will celebrate our past masters and widows at our dinner on November 24th for our brothers who have had the honor of sitting in the East and their wives who did all the work.

Chris Chag, Junior Warden

Notice

To assist the Lodge in meeting its physical plant needs, we will be piggy-backing on the youth fundraiser at UCF.  Since there are events that require adults (because everyone in the concession stand needs to be 18 when beer & wine are sold at events such as concerts), we are proposing to work some of these events as fundraisers for the Lodge.

The Worshipful Master has been doing this for two years (assisted by several of the brethren at Winter Park, South Seminole and Oviedo Lodges, among others), and can provide all the details.  It usually involves a time commitment of 4-6 hours, but the work is relatively easy, the camaraderie high and payoff for the group is pretty good.

From the East

Bill ValentinoMy Brothers, we begin the last third of the year with a reminder that on Sept 20th, we have a very important vote – to reschedule our election night from December 8th to December 1st, so that our Ladies of the Oriental Shrine can have our lodge room for their official visit.  Our Grand Master said that Masons are the key to the whole Masonic Family.  We show the strength of our fraternity by proving that we can help – this is a time of turbulence and change, and the mighty oak that stands rigid in the wind is blown over, while the reed that acknowledges the wind and bends is the one that survives the storm.

We are sure to have busy month in September, with all three degrees at some point.  Come out on Tuesday nights to practice degree work, and stretch yourself.

Fraternally,

Bill Valentino, Worshipful Master
